Baptisia ‘Purple Smoke’
(Hybrid False Indigo)

Baptisia 'Purple Smoke' (for web).jpg (Walters)This stunning hybrid False Indigo was selected by the late Rob Gardner at the North Carolina Botanical Garden. It is an extremely vigorous plant standing 3’–4’ tall with attractive green foliage and stems that are gray-green at maturity. The dusky purple-blue, pea-like flowers are borne in numerous large spikes and appear from late spring into early summer in northern regions. For a great combination try ‘Purple Smoke’ with Cranesbills, Irises and grasses. False Indigos are easily grown, problem-free perennials that are slow to mature but very long-lived.
